The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of experimental Condensed Matter and Materials Physics (CMMP) with an emphasis on nanoscale phenomena. CMMP is one of the strongest research areas in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, nationally and internationally competitive, both in research accomplishments and external funding. The successful applicant will join the CMMP faculty of 9 experimentalists and 2 theorists whose research interests lie in the areas on nanomagnetic materials and structures, ferroelectric, magnetoelectric, and organic materials, electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces, and electron and spin transport. He/she will have the opportunity to become a member of the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience (NCMN), which involves about 70 faculty across eight departments at UNL. NCMN operates Central Facilities including Nanofabrication, Materials Preparation, Electron Microscopy, X-Ray Materials Characterization, Scanning Probe Microscopy, Mechanical Characterization, and Crystallography. CMMP faculty also participate in an NSF-funded Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) "Quantum and Spin Phenomena in Nanomagnetic Structures" which provides opportunities for interdisciplinary research in nanomagnetism. UNL has designated Nanoscale Science and Technology as a "Program of Excellence", providing substantial support for research enhancement in materials-related Departments in the Arts & Science and Engineering Colleges. Starting date for this appointment is August 16, 2010. The Search Committee will begin screening applications on November 15, 2009 but the search will continue until a suitable candidate is found.
