DUTIES: The Department of Physics at the University of Maryland invites applications for a faculty position in the area of theoretical condensed matter physics. We expect that the successful candidate will complement the existing theoretical and experimental strengths in the department, especially in the Condensed Matter Theory Center (www.physics.umd.edu/cmtc), the Center for Nanophysics and Advanced Materials (www.cnam.umd.edu) and the NSF-funded Maryland Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (http://mrsec.umd.edu/). Appointments may be made at the tenure-track assistant professor level, or tenured associate or full professor levels as appropriate. The preferred starting date for the positions is August of 2010. QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in physics or physics-related discipline is required and strong postdoctoral experience in the field is generally expected. Good teaching is a high priority of the Department. Therefore, strong teaching skills, demonstrated or potential, are necessary. TO APPLY: Applicants should compose a single PDF file containing (1) a letter of application, (2) CV, (3) a statement of research interests and plans and (4) a statement of teaching philosophy; it should be labeled Lastname_App.pdf and uploaded at http://umdphysics.umd.edu/cmt09.html. In addition, applicants should arrange for four letters of recommendation to be sent as PDF attachments to cmt2009@physics.umd.edu. For best consideration, applications should be received by December 1, 2009. http://umdphysics.umd.edu/faculty-search. The University of Maryland is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer; women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
