On any given day, you may be called on to: + Pursue research in quantum approaches to discrete optimization, machine learning, and/or simulation, as well as other classes of quantum algorithms+ Conduct research utilizing knowledge of classical approaches to discrete optimization, approximation algorithms, or more general theoretical computer science+ Work under the guidance of and in collaboration with accomplished experts in quantum information science and theoretical computer science+ Publish results in relevant journals and present at conferences Required: + PhD in physics, computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering or related discipline+ Experience in quantum algorithm development, quantum complexity theory, adiabatic quantum computing theory, quantum information theory, or quantum error correction+ Proficiency in a programming language such as C/C\+\+ or Python+ Good communication skills as evidenced by a history of publication of results in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance Desired: + Interdisciplinary background with expertise in classical discrete optimization, machine learning, or theoretical computer science+ Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment and interested in interdisciplinary research+ Experience making effective technical presentations Department Description: Successful applicants will join Sandia's Quantum Algorithms for Optimization and Learning and Simulation \(QOALAS\) team\. QOALAS is a DOE\-funded effort to develop new quantum algorithms for optimization, machine learning, and quantum simulation, bringing together an interdisciplinary team of quantum information scientists and computer scientists from Caltech, Los Alamos Lab, The University of Maryland, and Virginia Commonwealth University\.
